WOOLPACK DISPUTE
FLAX AND TEXTILE WORKERS FINDING OF COURT OF INQUIRY (Per United Press Association) FOXTON. Jan. 24. A court of inquiry into the recent woolpack dispute sat at Foxton to-day. It was presided over by Mr S. Ritchie. Conciliation Commissioner, of Christchurch. Also present were Messrs F. D Cornwall, H. H. Podmore. and P. G Queenan (representing the workers) and Messrs P. T. Robinson, E. W. Sutton, and C. R. Luke (representing the employers). On the casting vote of the chairman, the following resolution was carried:—" The award is silent as to notice and as to any provision for notice in the case of a shift worker who is prevented from attending at the place and time for "nmmencing work. The committee recognises that it would be advantageous if the management were to confer with the union as to some suitable provision for notice and for a penalty for non-attendance, and, unless reason is shown, that penalty may be dismissal. The committee directs that the management shall employ those workers who have offered themselves for employment since the holiday period and who are still available for work."
