CANDID WORD TO AMERICA

Making an appeal for increased faith, hope, and love. Dr Frederick W. Norwood, visiting British .minister at the Riverside Church, New York, and formerly of the City Temple. London, told more than 1700 persons attending the service that “if we had known how to be Christians we wouldn t have a world like this to-day.” Dr Norwood declared it was against his principles to use a pulpit in a friendly country for propaganda purposes. He. nevertheless, said, “ I think you are a little too big to cover yourself with sleek neutrality while we shed our blood.” After the service, adds the New York Times, Dr Norwood pointed out that although he did not expect that America would send men, it did seem that since “we will be struggling over there for the things that America holds precious, the world has a right to expect something in return.”
