THE HOTEL WORKERS’ UNION
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—As an interested member of the Hotel Workers’ Union, may I. be allowed to enlighten members with reference to the question they are being asked to decide per medium of tne ballot box? Members in general are not aware that over two-thirds of our weekly income is paid out in wages, and if the decision of the executive is not upheld an increase in the weekly subscriptions will be necessary—and most likely an increase of 100 per cent., at that. In Otago there are about 20 unions that have female members, and all but the Hotel Workers’ Union have a weekly subscription of 3d, while the femaie members in this union have been paying 6d per week for the last 10 weeks and 9d per week for years previously. I understand that when the executive decided to dispense with the collector it also reduced the subscription and therefore passed on the benefit to all members of the union. I would advise all members of this union to give this matter their earnest consideration, and to attend all their union meetings in future.—l am, etc., Interested Member. November 16. [The question which is being submitted to the members at the ballot is whether the decision of the executive with reference to the services of the collector shall be annulled.—Ed. O.D.T.]
