FALSE ALARMS
BOY SCOUTS IN TROUBLE TROOP LEADER ADMONISHED fPER United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 18. The action of a Scout troop leader who permitted hi? Scouts to give false alarms to the fire brigade while returning from their weekly rally was severely criticised by the magistrate (Mr Reid), when three boys, one aged 15 and the others 12, appeared in the Children’s Court this morning on several charges of giving false alarms. They were admonished and discharged. “It was your duty to stop them rather than to encourage them,” said the magistrate to-, the eldest boy, “especially in view of the position of troop leader which vou formerly held, and which, I agree, vou were entirely unsuitable for. If you come here again we will make things warm for you. There is potential danger to both firemen and the public every time the engines are called, owing to the speed at which they travel, not to mention the expense and trouble of sending them out.”
