“AN UNPARALLELED YEAR” (From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON. Oct. 24. An Income of £54,875 during the year—the highest figure since 1926—was reported in the accounts certified by Lord Plender, as honorary auditor, at the twentieth statutory annual meeting of the Save the Children Fund Incorporated, held on October 19, This brings the total amount subscribed to the fund since its inception up to £2,555,000. Lord Nocl-Buxton, the president, said the past year lias been unparalleled in the history of the fund, and in the distresses with which it had had to deal in its work for needy children, both at home and abroad. It must have struck many people what a blessing it was that there was such a fund, and they must thank God that it had been able to carry on during the difficult period of the past year and Indeed to extend its activities. He made special reference to the relief work now being undertaken for Polish refugee children in Hungary, Rumania, and Lithuania, and urged the importance of the greatest possible support for this work. Mr H. D. Watson, C.1.E., C.8.E., was rc-elected chairman for the eleventh successive year and honorary treasurer for the twenty-first year. The annual public meeting, which was to have been held on October 28, with the Chinese Ambassador as principal speaker, has been abandoned owing to war conditions.
