BALCLUTHA Clay Bird Shooting The South Otago Gun Club held its monthly shoot on the club’s grounds at North Balclutha on Saturday afternoon in favourable weather conditions. The main shoot was a Skeet Match, in which the scores were as follows: —S. Aburn 18, plus handicap, 4, 22; Dr Radcliffe, 14—6—-20; J. Stiven, 19—0—19; W. Elliott, 18—1— 19; G. Sinclair, 16—2—18; W. Telford, 13 —4—17; D. Campbell, 14—2—16; A, Campbell, 12—2—14; C. Falconer, 9—6 —ls. Then followed a 12-bird Handicap, which resulted in a tie between D. Campbell and G. Sinclair. Individual scores were: D. Campbell (19yds), 12; G. Sinclair (16yds), 12; A. Campbell (12yds), 11; S. Aburn (18yds), 10; C. Falconer (11yds), 9: J. Stiven (22yds), 8; W. Elliott (17yds), 8; W. Telford (11yds), 7; Dr Radcliffe (14yds), 7. The afternoon’s shooting concluded with a five-pair double rise. Scores: J. Stiven 8, W. Elliott 6, D. Campbell 5, W. Telford 5. G. Sinclair 5. Cricket Poor scoring distinguished the match between the Clutha and Milton B teams played at Balclutha on Saturday. Clutha had the better of it, with 52 runs against 35. Reid (14) made top score for the winners. Bowling: Wybrow three for 20, Hawke four for 15. For Milton Hawke topped the score with 10. Bowling: Frengley eight for 15, Plew two for 1. Matches Abandoned Owing to heavy overnight rains greens were very heavy and bowling matches had to be abandoned. New Year Sports Port Molyneux Caledonian Society is again to the fore with a fine programme for its annual sports held on New Year’s Day. notwithstanding the present state of national emergency. Outstanding are the running events, with £2l 10s in prize money for the 100 Yards, £l7 for the 880 Yards Handicap, £7 in the Dash and 440 Yards, and £8 in the 220 Yards. The Mile Race, always a popular event, has been allotted £l4 in prize money. Bushcraft, jumping, piping and dancing are all well catered for in a long and varied programme of events. MILTON Church Bazaar The annual two-days’ bazaar organised by St. Mary’s Church, Milton, was held in the Coronation Hall on Friday and Saturday. Despite the inclement weather on Friday there was a good attendance, and good business was done. The stall-holders were as follows:—Produce, Mesdames H. Stewart and D. Murphy; sweets, Misses M. and K. Casey; art, Mrs J. Scott; plain. Mrs J. McLean; sheep guessing, Mr T. Quill; Aunt Sally. Mr J. R. Lynch; dancing supervisor, Mr M. Kreft; tearooms. Miss S. Maley and assistants. A feature of the bazaar was a national and Highland dancing competition at each evening session.. Mrs J. Gerkin. Dunedin, officiated as judge, and the following is the prize list, Friday’s competition being confined to competitors living south of Mosgiel:— Highland Fling (under 10 years).— Helen Warnock (Milburn) 1, Peggy Cullen (Clarendon) 2, Gwenda Clark 3. Five entries.

Sword Dance (under 15 years).— Patricia Campbell 1, Alva Warnock 2, Vera Bichan (Clarendon) 3. Seven competed. Highland Fling (under 12 years).— Francis Bichan 1, Alva Warnock 2, Helen Warnock 3. Eight competed. Irish Jig (under 15 years)—Alva Warnock 1, Patricia Campbell 2, Francis Bichan 3. Six entries. Consolation Highland Fling.—Kathleen Scott 1, Fay Robinson 2, Mary Allan 3. On the Saturday evening the competition was open to all comers, and medals were presented to the placed competitors in each event each evening. Following are Saturday’s results: Sean Truibhais (under 12 years).— Shirley Smith (Dunedin) 1, Francis Bichan 2. Isobel Gray (Dunedin) 3. Seven competed. Only competitors. Sailor’s Hornpipe (under 15 years).— Shirley Smith 1. Patricia Campbell 2, Isobel Gray 3. Two others competed. Highland Fling (under 10 years).— Isobel Gray 1, May Galvin (Dunedin) 2, Helen Warnock 3. Lawn Tennis In the B Grade-match played at Tokoiti between South Otago High School and Tokoiti, the visitors scored an overwhelming victory by 12 sets to 2, two other sets being abandoned owing to rain. The two sets won by the home team were Mixed Doubles. Cricket On the local Domain ground on Saturday Milton A and Clutha A teams played a drawn game. Milton scored 187 runs for nine wickets declared (Kane 80, including five 6’s, Cotterill scored 38 and Currie 24 not out). Clutha replied with 126 runs for five wickets when time was called (Guest 44, Gold 38 not out). Personal An enjoyable time was spent by about 60 friends at a welcome home in the Masonic Hall on Saturday night to Mr and Mrs George Elliott, who were recently married. Dancing occupied the greater part of the evening, and several items were rendered.
