TEA AND SUGAR SUPPLIES
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —A few weeks ago we were treated to a “sugar shortage” scare which resulted in a certain selfish class of the community rushing the grocers shops to get their hoard in for the duration of the war. It was left to the grocers themselves to frustrate their actions. Now that a tea scare is being circulated we can expect a similar state of affairs to come into existence, and if this happens prices are going to soar unless the Government wakes up and nips these hoarders in the bud. I suggest ration cards for these two commodities, so that all may have their share irrespective of their banking accounts. One hears quite a lot of talk regarding price fixing, nonprofiteering, etc., from Government sources, but nobody seems to be doing anything about it. —I am, etc., Dunedin, October 30. Hopeful.
