TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel FIXTURES November 7, 9. 10.—N.Z. Metropolitan T.C November 23. 25.—Forbury Park T.C. December 2.—Walrio T.C. December 2.—New Brighton T.C. December 2.—Waikato T.C December 9.—Waikato T.C December 16.- Tlmaru T.C. December 26 —Ashburton T.C. December 26 27.—Westport T.C. December 26.—Gore T.C. December 27. 29, 30.—Auckland T.C. December 29—Reefton T.C ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT “ Wager," Omakau.—(l) No. (2) Yes. (3) Not last season. No previous complete records, Wellington Ideas In Wellington, Lawn Derby, Fine Art, and King’s Play are fancied for the Trotting Cup. King’s Warrior King’s Warrior dropped out of the Trotting Cup, but is being kept busy for engagements at the meeting. Nationalist _ The three-year-old Nationalist attracted favourable notice by working a mile and a-half in 3min 22sec at Addington on Tuesday. He was got by Grattan Loyal from Lady Helston. Lawn Derby Lawn Derby pleased by his appearance and the manner in which he worked over a mile and a-half in 3min 23sec at Addington on Tuesday. From that work-out 1o the day of the race he will have a week to finish his preparation. Aide tie Camp Aide de Camp Is amongst those working well at Addington. Others responsible for solid tasks include Silk King. Bittersweet. Sonoma King, Lady Slipper, Royal Romance, Horse Power, Harold Guy. Jovial. ;and Aircraft, interference At Harold Park (Sydney) a driver was recently disqualified for 12 months on the ground of “ deliberate interference." ConiSidering that accidental interference can create a heap of trouble and danger, the punishment looks lenient. A Good Card The cord for the first day at Addington should produce some first-class racing. The fields show a good numerical strength without being unwieldy, and it goes without saying that quality Is required to win at Addington’s principal meeting, Parislenne If Porisienne is in shape to repeat her Imln 15 3-ssec put up at Forbury Park she should have a say in the finish of the Trotting Cup. Indianapolis holds the Trotting Cup record at 4mln 15 4-ssec. and Harold Logan won in 4min 18 2-ssec. Addington has a furlong more in circuit than Forbury Park, and is faster, so that Parislenne should improve on her Forbury Park form if track and atmospheric conditions are favourable. Fastest Time Although Dusky Sound’s time of 4min 32 4-ssec is a winning record for the Invercargill Trotting Cup, the fastest twomile performance since the present trotting track has been formed stands to the credit of College Boy. who recorded 4mhi 29sec when he won the Roslyn Harness Trot at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting last January. Saturday's Cup was the first held on the present track, which is much faster than the main galloping course on which the previous Cup races were staged. King’s Play King’s Play did not impress at Oamaru, and seems to have receded in favour for the Trotting Cup. Too much notice should not be taken of one failure. In August, King’s Play was rated as the best pacer in the Dominion, and he has a record of 4min 15sec. On a dry track (says an exchange) he may still be Fine Art’s m6st formidable opponent, though in mud everybody would desire to back Marsceres Reasonable Request The Canterbury Owners and Breeders' Association Is endeavouring to arrange with clubs to select one day in the week for receiving nominations, payments, acceptances and notices of forfeits for classic races. Owners and trainers say it is difficult to remember the dates and limes at which obligations fall due, especially in connection with the numerous events for two-year-olds, three-year-olds and big handicap contests. They point .out that the Auckland Trotting Club se-

lects Friday, the New Zealand Metropolitan Club Tuesday or Thursday, while other clubs have no definite day This meant that trainers were constantly searching programmes. If one day in the week was agreed upon by the clubs.it would prevent them from missing payments for Important races. They should also request that all clubs should adopt the same hour for closing. Mongolian Mongolian was responsible for two good performances on the second day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting when lie won the Junction Handicap over one mile and a-half in 3min 20 2-ssec, and the Insulation Handicap in 4min 26sec ior two miles. Mongolian drew attention to his remarkable improvement by conceding a field of novices upwards of 84 yards over a mile and a-half at Wellington last, month, and winning easily. In fact, he had the race in safe keeping two furlongs from home. For some time, he was trained at Addington by F. G. Holmes, but during last season he was sold to the West Coast sportsman. Mr W. S. Clarke, for a moderate sum. The son of Grattan Loyal and Wild Pointer was then transferred to L. F. Berkett’s stable at Hope, near hfoison, and the remarkable Improvement he has made (ills year points to his winning a race or two at the Addington carnival next week. Bogs and Horses How profitable mechanical coursing is to the New South Wales Trotting Club, which controls the sport at Harold Park, is revealed by figures Issued recently During the 12 months ended July 31 the club received £134,113 in revenue, and paid out £33,700 in prize money, while taxa tion received by the Federal and State Governments totalled £52,623 The club made a profit of £16,673. It is interesting to note that in spite of the fact that £5259 was received for rental of course and totalisator for dog racing, the trotting activities of the club resulted in a loss of £594. During the last three years the club has spent £46,217 on improvements and alterations at Harold Park, and in the same period it has paid £127,599 in taxation. Of the profits made during the year ended July 21 the club spent £10,975 on improvements to the track and buildings. Mechanical coursing has been conducted at Harold Park since December, 1933, and from that date to July 31 of this year total receipts have been £386,510.
