LITERARY COMPETITION
Entries in the literary competitions being conducted in connection with the forthcoming Centennial have now closed. The distribution to the judges is being carried out at Centennial House, this in itself having caused a considerable amount of work, as writers from all parts of New Zealand as well as New Zealanders overseas have been sending in material since the announcement of the competitions was first made.
The principal competition is for a novel, for a first prize of £l5O, and a second prize of £3O. The next highest award is for a full-length play. £75 being offered, with £25 for second. First prize in the long essay section is £SO, second £2O. Other prizes are: —Short story, £3O first, £lO second: poem exceeding 100 lines, £2O first, £5 second; poem less than 100 lines. £2O first. £5 second.
