DESTRUCTION OF POLAND GERMANY THE CHIEF ACTOR BISHOPS CONDEMNATION DUBLIN, Oct. 30. Dr Fogarty, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Killaloe, preaching in Ennis Cafhedraly* described Germany and Russia as “two monsters whose destruction of the great Catholic Kingdom of Poland was one of the most unscrupulous and horrid crimes in international history. It was buttressed by unblushing hypocrisy, falsehood and insolence. Germany, the .chief actor of the atrocious crime, handed over millions of Catholics and Christians to be trampled to , death by the enemies of God.” THE OCCUPIED AREAS NEW REGULATIONS ISSUED COPENHAGEN, Oct. 30. Owing to the “impudent and arrogant” attitude of the Poles new regulations in the occupied areas oblige them to get off the pavement when soldiers or members of the Nazi Party pass. Jews are not allowed on the pavement at all. They are forbidden to possess more than 2000 zlotys, and all debts to Jews over 500 zlotys have been cancelled. Jews are not, permitted to receive Red Cross assistance or own wireless sets. Shops must serve Germans first, then the Poles, and -lastly the Jews. THE BRITISH ARMY _ BEST FED IN THE WORLD (By Radio..) DAVENTRY, Oct. 31. The carriage of food to British troops in. France had been a tremendous undertaking, but it has been carried out without a hitch. To-day it is claimed that the British Army is the best fed in the world. Up to 150,000 tons of food a month have to be transported to France, this being partly for immediate need§ and partly.for. the building up of a reserve in case of disorganisation of transport through enemy destruction of ports and railheads. The reserve is now said to be built up to such an extent that it would last 40 days without rationing, and is stored over an area of 15 scuare miles. Six hundred and fifty tons of petrol a day is being used to transport men to the front line. British troops are preparing for participation in more active warfare than has been their lot up to the present. A huge aurimunition dump has been built behind the lines, and this will hold millions of cartridges of all kinds. THE DUKE OF WINDSOR VISIT TO FRONT LINE PARIS, Oct. 30. Le Journal, describing the Duke of Windsor’s visit to the front line, says he is looking younger than ever. The Duke, the paper adds, was gratified at the friendship of soldiers and civilians. WAR RISK RATES REDUCTION ANNOUNCED LONDON, Oct. 30. London underwriters have revised the schedule of minimum war risk rates. It includes general reductions. The new rates to New Zealand and Australia via the Mediterranean are 50 s per cent, for Allied flags, with an extra 10s via Panama; 40s for neutral flags to New Zealand and Australia; to the Black Sea, 70s Allied and 50s for neutrals. All rates show a decrease of 10s.
