COMMUNITY SINGING
: FINAL SESSION .r.;;. 4; ; , On Monday night, at 8 o'clock, the curtain will be rung down on the 1939 community singing season. The session will be held In the Town Hall. Admission will be free, with a collection, ana reserves are at Begg’s. As a compliment to the composer, Mr A. H. Pettltt, the St. Kllda Municipal Bnad, under Mr L,. I rands, will play for the first time at a public performance in New Zealand the brass band march " New Zealand Centennial March.” This will be played as the opening number. A splendid programme has been arranged of the popular numbers. Assisting will be Muriel Caddie’s Plano Accordion Band (first appearance), a ballet from Constance Potts’s School' Stage Dances, Miss Doris Darracott (vocal), with orchestral accompaniment,. Opoho Ladles’ Choir, Mr Ivan Hanna (vocal), with Mr Pettltt playing his march with vocal trio. An invitation has been sent to the members of the New Zealand Air Force stationed at Mosgiel. Donations from admirers have been received.- They include a hand smocked crepe de chine blouse (shell pink), a handsome white -baby shawl, silk and wool, hand-made. A black pup, two months old, will also be for sale. Conies of the “ New Zealand Centennial March ” for piano and autographed by the composer, Mr A. H. Pettitt, will be sold. The leaders will be Messrs H. P. Desmoulins and J. F. Himburg. “ Cheerios ” and donations may be sent to the secretary at Begg's. The sing will be broadcast by 4YO and 4YA. Begg'sOrchestra will play from V. 30 p.m.
