PUBLICATIONS RECEIVED

Discovery in the South The October issue of Discovery (South Islands Travel Association) presents in an attractive form a pictorial review of the cities, towns, and tourist resorts of South and Stewart Islands. The illustrations are very numerous, well-reproduced, and in many cases of definite artistic merit, showing how the intelligent use of the camera can add to the value of a subject. This is a lesson that does not seem to be easily learned by scenic photographers. The text accompanying the illustrations is adequately informative, although showing signs.of careless construction. For instance, a paragraph on Dunedin could, be construed to suggest that the city’s name is a corruption of Otakou. Rugby The finer points of Rugby may be overlooked by the excited grand stand spectator as the play moves swiftly across the field; but they can be studied by players and onlookers alike in leisure hours, with the certainty of adding skill and interest to the game. G. V. Stephenson, the Irish captain, C. A. Kershaw, >;..d G. S. Conway have collaborated in a new volume "Rugger” (Blackie, 7s 6d). in which they deal with the several aspects of the game in which they are experienced. This is an excellent practical manual.
