LINDBERGH TAKEN TO TASK

RECENT BROADCAST ADDRESS “GRATUITOUS INSULT” TO CANADA WASHINGTON. Oct. 20. Colonel Lindbergh’s broadcast on October 13. which belatedly is causing more and more comment, became, an important additional topic in the debate in' the Senate to-day. when'. Senator Brown meticulously dissected and condemned the aviator’s viewpoint, which he called a “ gratuitous insult ” to Canada. “ Clearly.” he said. “ this, is a plain statement that 'Canada must cut the last tie with the Mother Country. I condemn his remarks because they lend encouragement to the spirit of nationalistic imperialism that cursed the world for centuries and which is the potent poison that killed peace. “ I would have the world know that he did not speak for America. A little contemplation shows the absurdity of the position of Lindbergh. Suppose Canada, as is a fact, intends to send an army abroad and permits the establishment of a British naval base, what are we going to do about it? We cannot say we will not help in the event of a foreign invasion. This,is a protec-, tion to ourselves, not Canada.” General Hugh Johnson termed Mrs Roosevelt’s comment on Lindbergh as “ exactly the kind of stuff that got us into the war in 1917.”
