FORECAST FOR OTAGO RAIN DEVELOPING IN WEST The following official weather forecast for Otago, covering the ensuing 24 hours, was Issued at 5 p.m. yesterday by the Meteorological Office in Wellington:— • Moderate to strong north to west winds. Weather fine and mild in the east, but rain developing In, and west of, the ranges. Seas moderate, but rising in the south-west. DOMINION FORECAST TEMPERATURES MILD The following is the official weather forecast for the Dominion:— A weak anti-cyclone now covers the Dominion, but pressure is commencing to fall in the far south with the slow approach of a depression across the south Tasman Sea. Indications are for:— Winds.—South-westerly at first in the Auckland province, otherwise north to north-west prevailing; force moderate mainly, but freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters; Becoming rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light variable winds, and slight seas In the northern portion: freshening northerly winds and rising seas in the southern portion. Weather.—For the most part fair to fine, but unsettled conditions developing, later In Westland and Southland: frosts probable at night in the South Island, but temperatures mild to-day. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN There was a cold breeze from the northeast on Saturday and the maximum temperature was 54 degrees. The sun shone throughout the day, and the barometer, after falling, was rising towards evening at 30.10 Inches (1019 millibars). There was bright sunshine yesterday also, although the north-easterly wind persisted, the maximum temperature being 53 degrees. The barometer dropped gradually until about mid-day when there was a sharp fall to 29.94 inches (1014 millibars), the movement being continued until the middle of the afternoon when a gradual rise commenced. The reading at midnight was 30.05 Inches (1018 millibars).
