MOSGIEL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting ot the Mosgiel District High School Committee was presided over by the Rev E. P. Y Simpson, i ' Letters were read from the Otago Education Board about the employment of scheme 13 men.—lt was decided to make application for the continued employment of some men on the ground in preparation for the centennial treeplanting, and levelling work at the new playing area The Otago Education Board and the Postmaster-general advised that a Government grant of £IOO had been made .towards the cost of a four-inch water main at the school. This work was to ensure an adequate water supply should a fire occur at the new school. The Otago Education Board, in reply to the committee's letter, wrote to the effect that furniture would be supplied for the new clinic, but the supply of up-to-date instruments was a matter for the Health Department—Received. The application of the Y.M.C.A.. Dunedin, for the use of the school gymnasium from 3 to 5 p.m on certain days was granted. The committee decided to go into the matter of rentals in connection with the gymnasium at the next meeting.

The Department of Health advised thai Nurse Doherty, of Wellington, had been j appointed permanent dental nurse, and would commence duties early in October. —Noted. It was decided to obtain prices for : equipment in connection with the lnstallatton of a sound system which was out- J lined by the rector. i On the rector's recommendation, the \] sum of £1 was voted for music records for the secondary department, a grant made for sports' materials for primary and secondary cricket, and £1 Is for | tennis.—lt was , decided to send a letter of congratulation to the teachers concerned and the sports teams on their sue-, cesses in the past season's games, and to entertain them at an early date.
