WOMEN'S DIVISION N.Z. FARMERS' UNION
Reports of meetings of branches are requested, but they should be furnished promptly, for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised.
The Wangaloa branch met on Wednesday last, when Mrs W. Johnson presided. The roll call was, "Do you believe in luck and why?" A helpful demonstration of bandaging and first aid hints was given by Matron Clements, Mrs Johnson thanking her on behalf of members. Ktr s W. Johnson was hostess.
A well-attended public meeting convened by the Maniototo branch, was held in the Ranfurly Hall on Wednesday last, Mrs D. T. Weir presiding. A branch of the Red Cross Society was formed, and Miss J. Chisholm was appointed honorary secretary. It was decided to start a home nursing class, under the leadership of Matron Taylor and Dr Eudey. A sewing unit was also established. The competition, a bowl of primroses, resulted: Mrs F. Mathias 1, Mrs R. J. C. Smith 2.
The monthly meeting of the Hawea Flat branch was held on Wednesday, Mrs Watkins presiding. Mrs Gunn spoke on " The Aim and Object of the Red Cross Society." The competition resulted: Advertisements, Mrs Cardno 1; best bloom, Mrs H. Hodgkinson 1, Miss Miller 2. A community sing was led by Mrs Barltrop, with Miss M. Kane at the piano. The hostesses were Mrs Gray and Miss Drake. ♦ * *
Mrs Grant presided at the monthly meeting of the Maheno-Kauru branch, held on Wednesday. The roll call was " Bring something old and speak about it." Mrs Bowman spoke on nursing and treating concussion and shock at home, and Mrs Grant gave a humorous reading, " Mrs Duggan's Discovery." A competition for Belgium biscuits was won by Miss McDonald, with Miss Robertson second and Miss G. Kelcher third.
The monthly meeting of the Owaka branch was held on Thursday last, Mr s Holland presiding. The roll call was "A mystery costing not more than sixpence," the proceeds being sent to the Leper Fund. The hostesses were Mesdames Logan and Ashmore. A demonstration on silk work was given by Miss Jean Bains and Mrs Cox.
Mrs Grant presided at the monthly meeting of the Maheno-Incholme branch. "Bring something old to speak about" was the roll call. Mrs Bowman delivered an address on nursing and treating concussion and shock at home. The competitions resulted:—Biscuits—Miss McDonald 1. Miss Robertson 2, Miss G. Kelcher 3.
Mrs Poison presided at the monthly meeting of the Airedale-Rosebery branch. Papers on the national emergency measures in war-time, and the housekeeping auxiliary, were read. The competitions resulted: Flowers—Mrs W. Kirkpatrick and Mrs L. Willetts (equal) 1. Mrs G. Neil 3; nut loaf—Miss I. Hastings 1. Miss M. Buick 2; crocheted a?ovley. seniors—Miss I. Hastings 1, Mrs H. Buick 2; juniors—Miss M. Buick 1, Miss J. Kirkpatrick 2. Mesdames Buick and Ballantyne and Miss Willetts were the hostesses.
