CONDITIONS IN WARSAW DEFENDERS DISARMED A DEATH-LIKE CALM (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegracii— Copyright) LONDON, Oct. 2. The Rotterdam correspondent of The Times says the Germans announce that the gallant Hel garrison, consisting of 4000 men and 52 officers, has surrendered. They also pay a tribute to the bearing of the disarmed Warsaw defenders, whose, tramping feet are the only sound in the death-like calm of the ruined city. NAZIS ENTERING WARSAW HITLER AT THE HEAD COPENHAGEN, Oct. 2. Hitler is expected to lead a triumphal entry into Warsaw to-mor-row. PARTITIONING OF POLAND NOT RECOGNISED BY AMERICA WASHINGTON. Oct. 2. The United States to-day refused to recognise the partitioning of Poland, which Mr Cordell Hull termed a " victim of force used as an instrument of national policy." He added: " The mere seizure of a territory does not extinguish its legal existence. The Government of the United States continues to regard the Government of Poland as in existence." The Ambassador to Poland (Mr Biddle) will continue to remain near the Polish Government. ARE4S OCCUPIED BY SOVIET NO RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION MOSCOW, Oct. 2. (Received Oct. 3, at 11.55 p.m.) The radio announced that Christian and Jewish religious instruction has been banned in schools in the occupied areas in Poland.
