GRANGE CLUB ANNUAL MEETING There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Grange Cricket Club last night. Mr W. M, Beal presiding. : - 1 ' V, •• , Moving the adoption of the' annual repor,t and balance sheet, the chairman stated that complete arrangements had been made for the celebration of the diamond jubilee of the club, and asked for the members’ support for this event. The season had been an enjoyable one. Although the club’s First Grade team had not been particularly successful, there had been good results in the lower grade competitions. The club’s finances were in a satisfactory condition and the members of the Euchre Committee were, in particular, to be thanked for their services. Choice of Captains . Mr Bird moved that the rule staling that the captains of the various teams should be chosen by the committee should be rescinded and that the teams should choose their own captains. It was suggested that if the motion was carried, it would be essential to have some proper method of selecting the captain, and not the haphazard system of voting for a captain immediately prior to going on the field. Mr J. Day moved an amendment that the committee should appoint a captain for the first match, and that a ballot for a permanent captain should be held after the match, the result of the voting being handed to the committee for approval. A further amendment was proposed by Mr Knight to the effect that the Senior Grade teams should choose their own captains and that the captains of the teams below Intermediate Grade should be chosen by the committee. After lengthy discussion, Mr Days amendment became the motion, and was carried. General It was decided to open the season on October 7. . A recommendation was made that some ■ system should be introduced whereby the same players should not receive a trophy several years in succession. Suggestions made were that a handicap system should be introduced or that the winning of a trophy should preclude the winner from eligibility for the trophy for a period of years. It was the opinion of most members that, although the idea was fundamentally sound, it would be extremely difficult to put into effect.
