ORPHANS’ CLUB

BLIND GUESTS ENTERTAINED Members of the Social Club of the Blind were entertained by the Dunedin Orphans’ Club at its monthly social gathering last night, when an enjoyable programme was presented Bro. C. V. Smith occupied the chair and briefly welcomed the guests of the evening. He also extended a welcome to a former past president of the club in Mr H Turner. An attractively varied programme was presented, the principal item being “ Toreador Farce," which had been written by Bro. J. Gordon. The three characters were played by Bros. J. Gordon, R. P. Murphy, and H. M. Eggers, whose antics and lines were greatly appreciated. The club’s orchestra, under Bro. J. Clarke, played several enjoyable selections, and songs by Bros. Arthur Macdonald, L. B. Borrow, and George McDonald were well received. Bro. W. Smith gave a tenor horn solo and Bro. H. Russell a recitation. Bro. A, Pettitt was the accompanist. Another item that was popular was a talk by Mr C. R Allen on Bret Harte. During the evening a collection was taken up for the annual orphans’ outing and an excellent response was made. ____________________
