BABY ASSAULTED

FATHER’S BRUTAL ACT COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (Per United Press Association) ASHBURTON, Aug. 25. Arthur Norton Sim, aged 22, of Blinds, was committed for sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of having assaulted Norton James Sim (11-weeks-old baby) so as to cause it actual bodily harm. The accused was married last May, and resented remarks about his married life and the baby. On August 2 the accused, after having drink, took hold of 'the baby’s head while it was in its cot and stuffed one finger in its mouth. The accused said he did not intend to kill the baby, but endeavoured to so i-jure it that it might become ill and die.
