ALTERATIONS PLANNED
TOWN HALL BUILDING TENDERS TO BE CALLED Plans and specifications for the proposed alterations and renovations to the Town Hall building, to fit in with the installation of the lifts recently ordered by the council, have been submitted to the Finance Committee of the council by the city building surveyor. In its report to the council meeting to be held on Monday evening. the committee states that the proposals involve the removal of the present entrance steps and the construction of a new entrance to the building through the present strong-room at ground level. A new portico is provided for the entrance, and one stairway is to be removed to make space for the lifts. The specifications also make provision for redecorating the Council Chambers, stairways, and the first and second floor landings, and there is also provision for alternative prices for superior finish at the new entrance.
The committee recommends that the plans and specifications be approved as submitted, and that tenders be called for the work as specified, and that alternative prices be obtained for the superior finish. On receipt of the tenders, the report adds, the extent of the work can be determined in relation to the provision made for it in the current year’s estimates.
