Martin Smith, the Victorian professional, with a record-breaking round of 67, leads the field in the Australian Open Championship. The next are:—C. Connors 70, J. Ferrier, K. Fix (Western Australia), N. Johnson (Western Australia), and C. Booth (New South Wales), all 71, von Nida, A. Waterson (New South Wales), H. Payne, G. Naismith, and M. Ryan (Victoria). WOMEN’S GOLF RECORD AT NEWCASTLE SYDNEY, Aug. 25. Miss Margaret Rankin, State champion, who is selected as a member of the Tasman Cup team to visit New Zealand, broke her own course record at Newcastle by 7 .strokes, returning 78 and winning three Northern District championships.
