INVISIBLE RAY

ABBEY’S BEAM ALARM TERRORIST ACTIVITIES FEARED Burglar alarms have been installed in Westminster Abbey. An invisible ray alarm guards the Coronation chair in the Edward the Confessor Chapel. These precautions have been taken by the dean and chapter owing to the fear that terrorists may attempt to damage the abbey treasures. Anonymous letters have been received by the abbey authorities warning them that efforts might be made to destroy the chair. Special watch is kept on all visitors, and when the abbey is closed the invisible ray is switched on. Anyone crossing its beam, which operates for several yards around the chair, breaks a contact, and a powerful bell rings. Police are on duty day and night outside the abbey, and there is an inside patrol.
