MANCHESTER UNITY

On the occasion of the annual official visits' of sister lodges to Loyal Dunedin, the Prov, D.G.M. and I.P.P.G.M was' in attendance, together with representatives of all city arid suburban lodges. One new member was initiated and routine business transacted. Loyal Caversham issued an invitation to attend its meeting on Wednesday. The programme was provided by Miss Pocock, Mr and Mrs Dawson, Messrs Arthur Lungley, Peter Dawson arid S. Larkins. Mrs Newey . acting as accompanist. The programme had been arranged by P.G Bro. Allan Cameron. . Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge has been having successful meetings. The half-yearly balance sheet has been presented, this divulging'a healthy state of affairs in all funds. P.G. Bro. W Barnett bestowed upon P.G. Bro, W. Houliston his lodge’s appreciation of services rendered, in the form of an emblematical certificate and past officer’s regalia. At the meeting on Tuesday evening routine business was transacted and the lodge entertained women members and friends at an enjoyable dance. Earlier in the month a party comprising representatives of Loyal Hand and Heart. Dunedin, Albion and Oamaru lodges, together with Prov. D.G.M. Bro. W. H. Masters and I.P.P.G.M. Bro. W. Sellar, paid a visit to Loyal Band of Friendship Lodge, KakanUi. Theirieeting opened in mourning for P.G Bro. W. Wright. Two nominations for membership were received. The main business was a discussion on the Social Security Act in its relation to lodges, the meeting ultimately decided not to participate while the Act was in its present form. Items were rendered by Bros. W Sellar. Geoff. Clark, J. Cook. C. Lean, and J. McPhail.

Loyal Princess Mary Lodge has been well represented at the various official and social functions held during the fortnight. The lodge has arranged with the officers of Loyal Centenary Lodge for an exchange of chairs. At the next meeting, officers of this lodge will conduct proceedings and later entertain the women members at a dance. At the recent meeting the lodge entertained the members of combined juvenile lodges at games and competitions.

N.G. Bro. Taylor presided at the meeting of Loyal Albion. A game of trump whist was played, Sisters Sellar and Challis being successful in annexing the women’s prizes. Bros. A Parker and W McAHan won the men’s section. The committee set up to supervise the seventy-fifth anniversary celebrations in October have announced the following functions for the, occasion, extending from October 28 to 30, inclusive: — Wednesday evening, an “at home ’’ in the lodge room; Thursday, ordinary meeting; Friday, grand ball in the Town Hall Concert Chamber; Saturday, smoke social in the Victoria Hall; Sunday, attendance at the 11 o’clock service in First Church,
