With this end in view, the Management Committee of the sub-union appointed a sub-committee to investigate thoroughly all aspects of the game and to make recommendations to foster football in the district. The sub-committee’s report was considered and adopted at a meeting of the Management Committee on Wednesday evening. The report made the following recommendations:—(l) That, with a view to increasing the number of teams in the Fourth Grade, the Pioneer and Albion Clubs be asked to make special efforts to field teams in this grade; (2) that two junior representative fixtures, be arranged each season; (3) that the club competitions commence on the last Saturday in April and continue without interference by representative fixtures until the last Saturday in July, and that representative games be played as soon as possible after that date; (4) that entries for all grades be submitted before the annual meeting of the sub-union; (5) that meetings be arranged at Glenham and Edendale for the purpose of forming clubs in those districts: (6) that the sub-union ask the Southland Rugby Union for a grant of £IOO as a contribution towards the cost of fostering football in the district; (7) that the Southland Rugby Union be asked to call for nominations from the sub-unions for junior representative trial games; (8). that the selection of the Southland subunions’ team be on the basis of a' trial, match, Possibles v.
