FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE
AUCKLAND INSURANCE CANVASSER ARRESTED ON FRUIT FARM (Per United Press Association; AUCKLAND, Aug. 23. An Auckland insurance canvasser, Eric Stanley Watts, aged 37, who has been missing for five months and who was arrested on a fruit farm at Motueka on Sunday last, appeared in the Police Court to-day before Mr F. <H Levien, SM., charged with that, on January 17, he obtained £173 from Thomas Arthur Taylor by, falsely representing that he was authorised by the Temperance and General Assurance Society to sell a surrendered policy that was actually held by the firm mentioned, whereas in fact no such policy existed. On the application of the police, Watts was remanded by consent to September 17.
