An unflattering but undeniably humorous definition of Australians was provided by the Rev. C. J. Tocker, convener of the Presbyterian Temperance Committee, during a farewell social f;iver: in Wellington in honour of the Rev. J. R. Blanchard, an ex-president, and Pastor A. G. Saunders, a former member of the committee of the New Zealand Alliance, who are both leaving shortly for Australia. He understood, said Mr Tocker, that in Australia Mr Blanchard and Pastor Saunders would meet the people who had been described by some as the finest in the world. He had also heard them described as the people who had been selected by the finest judges in England.—(Laughter.)
