WOMEN'S DIVISION
NORTH OTAGO EXECUTIVE MEETS There was a good attendance of delegates at the meeting of the North Otago Executive of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, held in Oamaru on August 11. Motions of sympathy were passed with bereaved members in the customary manner, and best wishes for speedy recovery were extended to those members in hospital. Thanks were expressed to the Otago executive for its invitation to girls to attend the girls' week in Dunedin. and also to the Southland executive for invitations to attend both the girls' and women's weeks, and the North Otago executive expressed the hope of being able to return this hospitality at a future date. The housekeeping secretary reported on the work done since last meeting There are a registered housekeeper and two temporary housekeepers, but the work is sadly hampered through lack of housekeepers. The secretary reported that she could place six housekeepers at the present time, and the cases were urgenjt. A copy of "Brave Days," a book of stories of women in the pioneering days, was on view. This book has been compiled by three members of the Women's Division, and is for sale at 4s 6d. A supply of books will be sent to the secretary, Miss Allan. Weston, who will take orders. It was decided to take up lectures on Red Cross work in the branches, and it was left with the secretary to arrange for lectures. The secretary was also instructed to take charge of the work to be sent to the Centennial Exhibition.
Members of the branches are practising for the drama festival, final arrangements for which are to be made at the next meeting.
A pamphlet of the Dominion secretary's report, for reading at the meetings, wag given to each branch. Mrs Dugdale (treasurer) gave a report on the financial position, stating that there was a small surplus from the ball, which it was decided should be placed as a nucleus for a social fund. It was decided to hold another executive meeting on September 1, as the meeting adjourned business to hear addresses from Mr Familton and Mr Meek on Centennial matters, and on the proposed Centennial Memorial of the Plunket and Rest Rooms and Pioneers' Lounge. It was agreed that branches form small committees to help with the collections in their respective districts.
