Y.M.C.A. APPEAL

CAMP SITE AT WAITATI Claimed as one of the outstanding contributions made to society, the specialised work of the Young Mens Christian Association for boys was incorporated into the association's activities in 1898. It rapidly became one of the most effective expressions of the association's aims and purposes. Many of the later day boys' work organisations have modelled their programmes on the work of the Y.M.C.A., which stands for the spiritual, mental and physical education of youth, preaches the doctrine of sound and loyal citizenship, and realises that the method ol prevention is a great deal cheaper than the method of reformation. The annual camps of the Y.M.C.A. have been a great medium in the building up of virile boyhood, and the local Y.M.C.A., realising the possibilities, has been successful in procuring a permanent camp site at Waitati. Comprising 20 acres of hill and flat, and bordered by the Waitati Stream, it is said to be an ideal situation for the hearthgiving requirements of a model boys camp? The Dunedin Y.M.C.A. during the past four years has been able to give a free holiday to approximately 160 boys whom financial reasons have debarred from having an annual holiday, and to-morrow citizens will be asked to contribute Is towards providing this site which will be a legacy to the boys of Otago.
