"RED" NEW ZEALAND

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—The above heading appeared over some cable news in last Thursday's paper. It comes from Marshal Goering's newspaper. It is good for us at times to see ourselves as others see us. -But, surely, the majority of New Zealanders will object to such a nickname! I cut the following notice from the Otago Daily Times of June 21:—"An opinion that what -he termed the 'Communist element' was to blame for the trouble among the carpenters in Wellington was expressed by a well-known member of the Labour Party in Christchurch. In the building trade workers in Wellington and Auckland, he declared, there was a big Communist element which made a practice of working from within. Avowed Communists some years ago, a number of those workers had signed the necessary document and joined the Labour Party. As they signed, nothing could be done to keep them out of the party. - He considered that strong action was necessary t to meet the actions taken by a small element which led on other members, of unions." This shows that Communists will simply sign anything in order to gain their purpose. Communism is utterly immoral! That is why it is such a dreadful menace to the community. Fragile, irresponsible human beings flirt with this horror. We trust that they will awake from their strange and terrible infatuation before it is too late. Communists have no consciences. They do not know the difference between* right and wrong. They intend to drive New Zealand to the edge of the precipice and then plunge her over into the sea of lawlessness! , Let the Communists in New Zealand migrate to Russia, where Stalin will give them plenty of hard work, black bread, and stale beans.-r-I am, etc., Maran-atha.
