EROSION AT ST. GLAIR

DOMAIN BOARD WATCHING « POSITION /' * \'-s STATEMENT BY CHAIRMAM Referring to the report of ing of the St. Kilda Council on Monday evening, at which it was decided to call a meeting to discuss the erosion problem at St. Clair. Mr J. Wilson, chairman of the Ocean Beach, Domain Board, stated yesterday that he was surprised to see the council taking such a step, and he considered that it should have communicated with him or .with the board before alarming the public unnecessarily. ~ , , " The erosion at the particular place has occurred several times." he stated, " and it has never been grappled in a better manner or more expeditiously than on this occasion. I have been watching .the position closely and would have called the board together if I bad deemed it necessary. .The public will have the use of the old footpath at the end of the week. In my opinion, it is not necessary to call a public meeting. " With the heln of a favourable wind and our fence work." Mr Wilson said, "the area of sand will be restored. Itis the board's uolicy to provide for permanent protection for this spot in the near future, as soon as the necessary funds are available."
