An indication that Russia was leading the world so far as educational experiments were concerned was given in a lecture on that country by Mrs Edith Bennett at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the League of Nations Union. Not only had examinations been abolished at universities, but the students had been granted the right to criticise their professors, rather than the other way about. Corporal punishment was strictly forbidden in all the schools, while two subjects little loved by the average schoolboy—Latin and Greek—had been cut out of the curriculum.
