FACING STARVATION

JEWISH REFUGEES BOATLOAD AT SMYRNA ANKARA, Aug. 14. (Received Aug. 15, at 0.15 a.m.) Six hundred Jewish refugees who arrived at Smyrna in the steamer Parita last week face starvation as the result of fruitless efforts to obtain food from friends ashore. The Turks' attitude hardened as the result of the arrival of five more refugee ships at Fenike, a south Anatolian port. The authorities believe that if kindness were shown it would result in an endless stream of ships arriving at Turkish ports.
