THE MATCH IN MELBOURNE NEW ZEALANDERS BEATEN MELBOURNE, Aug. 10. The badminton test for the Whyte Trophy ended at 11.30 last night in victory for Australia, who scored seven rubbers, 16 sets, and 317 points to New Zealand s 5 rubbers, 12 sets, and 303 points. The gallery totalled 900 spectators. The feature was the match between McCabe, the Australian champion, and Roussell. McCabe won by his unfailing accuracy. Following are the results: — (Australians mentioned first):— Harper defeated Pearce 11—15, 15—5, 18—14. Misses Hewitt and Robert defeated Mrs Wren and Miss Fleming 15—12, jg 21 McCabe defeated Roussell 15—12. 15—3. Tonkin and Miss B. Cuthbertson defeated Spedding and Mrs Wren 15—11, 15—4. Miss Robert lost to Miss Fleming 11—7, 9—12, 3—ll. Mrs Wray and Miss B. Cuthbertson lost to Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Kerr 4—15, 2 —15.
