UNDERGRADE FRUIT

SEARCH FOR PAYABLE OUTLET DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Aug. 10. The question of the profitable disposal of windfall apples and rejects was discussed to-day by the annual conference of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation when four remits were passed advocating that the Government should do everything possible to find a payable outlet for undergrade fruit. A memorandum from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research stated that the remits were being met to a large extent by Government activities in the field of fruit-juice production, which appeared to be the most hopeful immediate avenue for, utilisation Of surplus fruit. The memorandum added that as a 1 first step towards safeguarding both the fruit and juice industries and the general public, the manufacture of unfermented apple juice had been brought under licence under the Industrial Efficiency Act.
