REQUESTS TO GOVERNMENT EARLY CONSIDERATION PROMISED, /Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Auff. 10. Various problems affecting! the fruitgrowing industry in the Dominion were placed before the Acting Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) and Cabinet Ministers to-day by a deputation from the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation. The serious nature of some o' the difficulties was stressed, and ean assurance was given by Mr Fraser that they would receive early consideraU The deputation requested that the Government should consider placing all primary producers of foodstuffs On the same basis as fishermen regarding the rebate on petrol; that it should institute an inquiry into transport costs in the Nelson province: that it should grant relief from the social security tax on foodstuffs produced by farmers on their farms: that it should abolish or alleviate the.heavy traffic fees on orchardists’ lorries: that an inquiry should be made into the rating system in Hawke’s Bay:’and that an improve* ment should be made in the telephone service in relatively densely-populated back-country areas.
