THE SHEEP INDUSTRY
EVIDENCE FOR COMMISSION COVERAGE OF ALL PHASES The form in which evidence should be prepared for presentation to the Royal Commission on Sheep Farming was the subject of a very full discussion in committee at the meeting yesterday of the Otago Provincial Council of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. A report from the subcommittee set up by the council together with specimeq printed forms was presented by Mr A. C. Cameron. An indication was received from the commission that it intended to confine Its attention mainly to the problem of high and foothill sheep country, and that it did not propose to be greatly concerned with arable and mixed farming problems. The council decided unanimously that evidence should be tendered on all phases of sheep farming, and that, in addition to the evidence available from balance sheets, statistical evidence should be drawn up. showing the incidence of direct and indirect farming costs. Attention is also to be given to other factors in addition to living costs, production costs, and marketing costs, The president (Mr R. S. Thompson) the vice-president (Mr D. H. Cockburn). and Messrs W A. Scaife F Waite. A. C. Cameron. James Begg Stuart Sim, A. C. Leary. D. Grant, and C. J Inder were aooointed a subcommittee to finalise the evidence and arrange for witnesses to support the prepared evidence
