Mr and Mrs W. McAlevey and Mrs J. Richmond are visitors to Christchurch for Grand National week. * * * Mrs W. Porteous, who has been staying for some months in Otautau, is now the guest of Mrs T. F. Macdonald, of Invercargill. * * * Mru W. Carswell gave an afternoon tea party at her home in St. Clair on Tuesday in honour of Mrs Charles Nelson Brown, of Shanghai. * * * Mr and Mrs Albert Bidgood and Mr and Mrs A. Strachan entertained at a bright dance party in the art students' club rooms on Thursday last, when the guests of honour were Mr and Mrs V Godwood, who will shortly take up residence in Auckland. * » » ! Miss 'Doris Macaulay. of Middlemarch, who has been on an extended holiday in the Old Country, recently naid a short visit to Norway., She has written to friends here intimating that she will leave London by the Ormonde on Saturday on her return to the Dominion. » * # In honour of the wives of two visiting judges—Mrs J. B. Callan. of Auckland, and Mrs D. S. Smith, of Wellington—a morning tea party was given by Lady Sidey at her residence, "Corutorphine," yesterday. Tea t was served in the drawing-room, where pink camellias a'nd similax were prettily arranged. The guests numbered about 20.
