ELDERLY WOMAN'S DEATH

BURNS AND SUFFOCATION FIRE BRIGADESMEN'S DISCOVERY (Per United Press Association; NELSON, Aug. 8. The fire brigade was called to a fire this morning, and discovered on arrival an elderly single woman, Katherine Coleman, lying across her bed dead. The mattress was smouldering and the woman had been severely burned, death being due either to suffocation or shock. The accident is believed to have been caused by a candle alongside the bed. Miss Coleman lived with another elderly lady, who is deaf.
