THE CANVASSING OF ART UNION TICKETS
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—l would like to clear the air respecting a correspondent's complaint about the sale of art union tickets by me. In the first place. I have never sold tickets in Dunedin for the Timaru Caledonian Pipe Band, as no such band exists by that name. The band is known throughout New Zealand as the Timaru Pine Band. Whenever I have approached people to buy, I have always handed the book and invited the prospective buyer to see what the proposition was. and if he did not wish to buy I simply thanked him and left. The tickets which I have sold in Dunedin have been in the interests mainly of the South Canterbury Caledonian Society and the Star Football Club. Surelv the person concerned, when buying the tickets, could see plainly what the object was for which thev were issued and also, the place of origin. I would like to point out also that all tickets I have sold are sold under permission from the Minister of Internal Affairs.—l am, etc.. Timaru. August 7. Not Biased.
