No definite figures are available regarding the present number of Japanese residents abroad, but the following figures, which were compiled at the end of 1935. are believed to have varied very little since then. There were then 689,818 Japanese living in countries outside Japan, exclusive of the Kwantung leased territory and the mandated territories. Of that number. 398,060 were males.
