TIN AND LEAD

AUSTRALIAN FIRM'S BAN NO EXPORTS TO DOMINION MANUFACTURERS CONCERNED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 12. Because the necessary exchange funds for payment are not at present available, a large Australian supplier of tin and lead has notified Auckland merchants and manufacturers that in the meantime it is not prepared to accept orders. Grave concern is expressed at the announcement, for although another source of supply still appears open, the industry uses these metals in such large quantities that difficulties arising from the restricted supoly are considered inevitable. It is pointed out by manufacturers that at this period of the season farmers’ milk cans are received in large number for re-tin-ning. the regulations requiring that the containers must be in good order The situation is likely to embarrass the farmer unless it is speedily relieved. Meat works are also large users of tin for canning, The refusal by the Australian supplier to ship both lead and tin affects the manufacture of solder and wiping metal. Manufactured solder cannot now be imported into the Dominion under the ban imposed bv the import restriction regulations. Auckland industry is a very large user of solder, many tons of lead and tin being imported each month for its manufacture.
