SENIOR RUGBY COMPETITION

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Once again our “ unbiased ” Southern football delegates have ruled the roost at the Rugby Union meeting What a lovely excuse Mr Wootton made for changing next Saturday’s draw! May I ask that gentleman what difference it will make 'if Southern beats Kaikorai and Union beats University A, and then Union beats Southern the following Saturday? Where is the extra day to come from? Of course, if half the Southern team are chosen to train for Otago it will keep that great team in form for three weeks Why has Pirates, which has a good chance of beating Southern, been denied the game? May I suggest that the “ Otago Rugby Football Union" title be changed to the “ Southern Football Union.”—l am, etc., Fair Play. Dunedin, July 12. TO THE EDITOR Sir, —“ True Dark Blue ” in your issue of the 12th inst. seems to be quite concerned that the draw for Saturday’s matches has been altered. If the Southern members of the O.R.F.U. are strong enough to control the draw good luck to them. Why should they have their team pitted against one which beat their this week’s opponents by 14 to nil? Why, also, should these have been matched with Pirates ill the second round in preference to some of the teams which are lower down the ladder? As regards the hasty postponement of last week’s matches, olaved in other centres, surely “True Dark Blue " realises that money talks always with our controlling body Besides. it is very difficult to kick goals when the ball and grounds are in last week’s conditions. In conclusion the O.R.F.U. is to be congratulated on the holding up of an ex-representative’s transfer until the same transfer is too late to be of any benefit to himself or the club for which he wishes to play However, if there is no other way out of it, “ True Dark Blue ” may yet see two or three players from other clubs still representing Otago at Rugby Park. —I am, etc.. Black and White.
