“ IRRESPONSIBLE DOMINATION”
TO THE EDITOR Sir—The hopeless outlook against irresponsible domination in British colonies can only be' remedied in one way. and that is by sane voting control. No one who has no material interest in a country should have a vote, and certainly no one under 25 years of age. Recently I was told of a girl of 17 years of age who, on appearing at her work 1 one morning, sneeringly asked her fellow-workers. “Did you hear that fellow Hamilton over the air last night? Wasn’t he awful? ” Now, Sir, this child was only the mouthpiece of her parents, and this is why I repeat that the irresponsible should not vote for those who control the destinies of a land, and if Britain is going to keep her colonies she will have to alter their voting systems. Those in power here should know their own people, but they are treating their intelligence with contempt. When Mr Savage and his confreres have brought this country to the verge of bankruptcy and are at their wits’ ends to know how they can hold the people with their type of propaganda before they awaken to the fact that they are being “ stung,’’ it is certainly time they learnt new tricks. However, their policy is of their own patent, and it has not worked because, unlike other Soviets, we have the good old British flag flying. Britain gave us self-government and can take that privilege away. New Zealand does not belong to Messrs Savage, Nash and company; it belongs to Britain.— I am, etc.. Pop Gun. July 11.
