TIN CLIPPINGS

LIFTING OF EXPORT BAN LICENCES TO AUSTRALIAN FIRM LOCAL'AGENTS PASSED OVER For some time past the export of scrap metal, including tin clippings, has been banned but about a month ago it was announced that the ban had been lifted in so far as tin clippings were concerned. From inquiries made by local firms which have this commodity to sell it appears that the licences are being granted conditional upon the clippings being sold to an Australian firm, Ingot Metals Proprietary, Ltd., of Sydney, and the New Zealand export firms who formerly dealt in the clippings are, not unnaturally, interested to discover why this stipulation should be made, especially when the de-tinning operation is not carried out in Australia, and the material has to be exported again from there. Among those interested in the position is Mr W. Stevenson, of the firm of Messrs Irvine and Stevenson, Ltd., and he has been informed by a Sydney ~gent that the firm of Ingot Metals, Ltd., has only recently been formed and that its business does not appear to be an extensive one.
