SHEEP SELL FIRMLY CATTLE VALUES UNCHANGED PIGS IN BETTER SUPPLY The large yarding of 418 head entered contained a fair percentage of prime bullocks, the balance being medium to light. Some good heifers and cows were forward, but a big proportion in this section ranged from ' medium down to inferior grades. Prime quality bullocks met with a ready sale with no quotable change in values, but medium and light were easier to the extent of 10s per head. Cows and heifers which were in oversupply also eased 10s to 15s. Extra heavy bullocks to £2O 2s 6d; prime heavy bullocks £ls to £ 17 17s 6d; prime medium bullocks £ll 10s to £l3 10s; light and unfinished from £9; extra prime heifers and cows to £ 12 7s bd; prime heifers and cows £8 15s to £lO 15s; medium heifers and cows £7 5s to £8 ss; light and inferior from £5. A small yarding of only 50 head of assorted store cattle was penned to meet with a keen demand at prices showing no change on those ruling last weak. A small yarding of 17 dairy cows was entered and a brisk sale for good condition close to profit cows and heifers must be recorded. A medium entry of 1790 fat sheep came forward. The quality was not up to last week’s standard, although a few particularly good wethers and a small percentage of heavy ewes were included. The bulk, however, was made up of medium down to light grades in both sexes; ewes predominating. Competition was keen throughout, prices showing an increase for all classes of 2s per head The entry of hoggets, sold on a par with late rates. Extra heavy wethers to 34s od; prime heavy wethers 27s 6d to 30s 3d; prime medium wethers 23s to 265; light and old from 14s 9d; heavy ewes to 265; prime heavy ewes 20s to 245; prime medium ewes 17s to 19s; light from 14s; prime hoggets to 245; average hoggets 18s to 21s: light hoggets from 14s 9d. . An average yarding of 162 fat pigs came forward. The entry consisted mainlv of baconers, and prices for both baconers and porkers may be quoted firm on last sale’s rates. Another small yarding of only 25 store pigs was penned and a keen sale resulted. Values showed no change from those of last week.
