NEW BATTLESHIPS

AMERICAN VESSELS NAMED NEW YORK, July 11. (Received July 11, at 11.30 p.m.) The navy’s 45,000-ton battleships, for which the shipyards at New York and Philadelphia are at present being enlarged, were to-day named lowa and New Jersey. The Navy Department will probable ask Congress next session for two more, thus foi'ming the world’s most powerful battleship division. An unusual honour was accorded the late Mr C. A. Swanson, former Secretary of the Navy, after a State funeral to-day. when it was announced in the Senate that destroyer 443, at px-esent under construction, would be named U.S.S. Swanson.
