NORWAY CLAIMS AREA KING’S PROCLAMATION WASHINGTON, July 11. (Received July 12, at 0.15 a.m.) The State Department has been informed that King Haakon has proclaimed Norwegian sovereignty over the mainland and the Antarctic coast from the Falkland Island dependencies to the Australian dependencies, 45 degrees east longitude. United States whalers are alarmed and have asked the department to define American rights in the Antarctic.
