MIDDLEMARCH Soldiers’ Memorial A meeting of women interested in the proposed improvements to the memorial grounds was held on Tuesday afternoon, and the following committee was appointed to work in conjunction with the members of the Memorial Board:—Mesdames G. Renwick, A Carruthers, J. Aubrey, R. N. Elliott, Albert Robertson, Polaschck and W. Brensscll. and Miss Harrison Mounted Troop As it is the policy of the Defence Department at the present time to encourage the formation of mounted rifles in outlying districts, it is understood that a proposal is on foot to establish a mounted troop in the Middlemarch district Detailed information can be secured at any time from Mr J. Jones, president of the local Returned Soldiers’ Association The Weather For the past week there has been a succession of strong southerly winds, but the district has been fortunate in that there is no snow on the low country.
