THE CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL
TO THE EDITOR Sir, —In your correspondence column of Tuesday “Not a Motorist” unconsciously strikes the only little note of humour in the whole controversy regarding centennial memorials. To those “ in the know ” there is rich humour in his implication that a letter written by myself could possibly have been one of the factors which influenced the decision of members of the Centennial Executive to turn down the fountain as a memorial. I can see the broad smile illuminating the faces of members of that executive when they read that amazing remark by your correspondent. No, Mr Non-motorist, you must look to the man in the street as responsible for the fate of the fountain, not to such a nonenity as myself. I cannot claim the qualifications or charms of a “Bunty.” who can pull strings —I am. etc., E. H. McKinnon. Dunedin. July 11.
